CALF’s “Water in Colorado” learning in the field program focuses on water quantity, quality and agricultural use issues uniquely related to this sparce resource in Colorado. Each station provides learners with hands-on experiences designed to discover how water is used and treated by the ranchers and farmers as well as how it is monitored and conserved. Learning stations include:

Choices are discussed and the learners will discover how making sure all parties have enough water to use. They will fill out a data collection sheet for use at school. Healthy Rivers and Riparian Restoration – At this station the learners will discover what a healthy riparian system is and how it is defined by scientists. They will learn why East Plum Creek is being restored and the steps the scientists are doing to return it to the healthy riparian zone that it was. Students will sow native grass seed to help hold the soil in place which will keep it from eroding into the waterway.
